What is a birth announcement?

A birth announcement generally is a message traditionally sent to friends and family by the parents of a baby within the first year of the baby’s birth.  The arrival of a baby in the family is usually a much-awaited joy and this announcement makes it even more festive.

Nowadays you can choose the form of the announcement – only digital, only text, a photo on social media, a postcard of a fancy birth announcement card. It all depends on you and how you want to make this moment remembered. Having a digital birth announcement is very convenient but it has its downsides as well. It is not that personal – once published all your friends on social media can see it. You may want to PM it to selected ones but having a card in your hands is a much more luxurious experience. Plus it is one of the first keepsakes of your baby, after the ultrasound picture.

Are birth announcements necessary?

Are you obliged to send one? No. It is all up to you In a digital world where everything goes by too quickly and gets suffocated by the next thing in minutes, a birth announcement deserves to be more prominent and memorable. That is why the traditional baby announcement card is and still remains a favorite among new mothers.

The etiquette says this announcement should be done within the first year of the baby. No need to rush for a photo session of your newborn if you do not feel like it. You can arrange one when it is convenient for you and when you feel ready to share this news with family and friends
